If you ever find yourself in Austria, go to Salzburg! An Instagram friendly town nestled 2.5 hours from Vienna by train, Salzburg is bustling with beauty, charm, and the sound of music.

We arrived by train on a "let's stay in the shade at all costs" Sunday afternoon. Staying at the Wyndham Grand was a huge plus as it happened to be a two minute walk from the train station. We noisily pushed our six pieces of luggage to the hotel and even though it was pretty much across the street from the train station, we entered the hotel dripping with sweat. The hotel staff exuded the kind of warmth and helpfulness you only find in small towns and showered us with info, directions, and dinner suggestions. They're updating the hotel right now so we were lucky enough to stay on their newly renovated floor which was modern and airy. After a quick nap, we headed out to explore Salzburg.

The first thing on our rather loosely edited agenda was the Sound of Music Bike Tour. By no means are either of us big SOM fans but in preparation for Salzburg, we watched the movie together for the very first time a few weeks before the trip. The themed bike ride simply added another layer to a tour of the city. Our bike guide was this really chill twentysomething with Venice (CA) vibes who had lived in Chicago for a few years before moving back to Austria so his accent Arnold Schwarzenegger channeling surfer dude. The bike ride ended up being the best ride of my life! Aside from hitting all the SOM sights, we pretty much biked through the entire city taking in its scenic beautiful on a three hour tour, a three hour tour...

We rode along the Salzach river past local vendors selling everything from handmade jewelry to wiener schnitzel. We rode through Old Town which is as European as it gets. The buildings are ornately chiseled ripened by age with its walls filled with history. We rode through lush valleys facing the breathtaking Alps. We rode through beautiful estates, lakes, and a palace with a garden that looked like mini Versailles. Throughout the bike ride, I couldn't stop smiling my heart filled with happiness and inner peace.

Visit Salzburg! It's idyllic, peaceful, and perhaps one of the most beautiful places in the world.
