Concept LA Fashion Week Coverage-S&G Clothing and SACHIKA Shows

Held at the Ace Gallery on Wilshire Blvd, the Concept LA Fashion Week shows got underway last Thursday amid an unprecedented LA heat wave. The gallery, which felt more like a boiler room, played host to an array of fashion insiders, models, press, and fashion seeking randoms eagerly anticipating the first shows of fashion week.

S&G Clothing is the creative collaboration of design duo Sequoia Emmanuelle and Gita Salem. Founded in 2007, the San Francisco based brand grew out of the rich and dynamic underground performing arts community of the Bay Area. Just a year ago, the label moved their headquarters to Hollywood and opened a boutique on Melrose Avenue. Their designs have made appearances in Prince's 2010 Summer tour, and on rockers Marilyn Manson and Taylor Momsen, among others.

The Spring 2012 collection looks and feels like urban and edgy hipster strutting it in Venice Beach. With pieces ranging from grungy street wear to sexy evening gowns made mainly of organic materials, the S&G collection is an exploration into creative tailoring and structure. Sequoia and Gita have said, ” Our company and our designs are an expression of the conversation we’re having with society as it evolves around us. The information comes at a rapid pace and each day we adapt.”

Identity twins To-Tam and To-Nya Sachika make up the dynamic yin and yang halves of SACHIKA. Born into a family of artists and entrepreneurs, the sisters moved from Montreal to Los Angeles just a few short years ago to embark on their journey straight to the runway. Within one year of launching the brand, SACHIKA was dressing celebrities and was featured in major publications such as Italian VOGUE, Forbes, ELLE Magazine, NY Times, and E! Entertainment Television.

The SACHIKA Spring 2012 Collection, titled, "Mermaid Paradise: Dance with the Ocean" showcases the designers' signature style. Satin body con dresses geometrically shaped and in brilliant colors of aqua and coral shared the runway with flow-binding and un-demurely sultry evening gowns. The show opened with an exotic dance performance featuring scantily clad "Adams and Eves" that could qualify as a fashion musing in and of its own.
