As a result of my everlasting love for Gone with The Wind, I totally romanticize plantation life. Thus, a plantation visit was on the top of my New Orleans checklist. When the lovely Cajun Encounters, a locally owned and operated tour company that names Brangelina as their guests invited me to take their swamp and plantation tour, I was beyond thrilled! Not only would I get to take a peek into Scarlett's life, I'd get to do it knowing Brangelina stood where I stood. Two birds, one stone.
I wore the most dramatic outfit I'd packed to the plantation tour. Impractical for all day walking. But you know how it goes.
The Oak Alley Plantation is a stunning Greek revival style antebellum estate. It was so breathtakingly beautiful I couldn't keep my eyes off of it. The tour was informative and absolutely perfect...just like the rest of New Orleans!

I'm a big fan of Gone With the Wind too! Love it! Even though I go to New Orleans like once or twice a month, I've never taken a plantation tour! I'll have to make sure I do that. Plantations of course hold a different meaning to me, as I think of my ancestors working there as unpaid slaves, but I still want to see historical parts of this country...the good and the bad!

I love these shots! The colours are beautiful together!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVED the Oak Alley Plantation! It was one of my favorite scenes the week I stayed in Metaire, LA. You're making me miss NOLA ever more now haha. But honestly, you make that clean, beautiful, vintage, plantation look even more attractive by being in these pictures.
ReplyDeleteThat place couldn't have dreamed to hold any more natural beauty until you stepped onto the premises.
Do you have any sense of history? How can you romanticize plantations when people were enslaved, beaten, raped, and otherwise abused in them? Have a little tact.
