A weekend of wine, food, and family was quite the perfect way to celebrate Fourth of July. On our way to Central California, we stopped at Gainey, a beautiful winery with vineyards sprawling across multiple acres located in the Santa Ynez Valley. Drinking with my parents and brother is interesting as it adds a refreshing dimension to our family interaction and reminds me of how far we've evolved as a family.

I still remember the first time I drank (and got caught). I was a sophomore in high school and it was New Year's Eve. My parents were at a party so I invited a few friends over including my boyfriend at the time. Dad came home unexpectedly to pick up something and caught me with a can of Budweiser while sitting on a guy's lap. The party dispersed in less than sixty seconds and I was forced to ring in the new year with my parents and their friends while slightly buzzed with Mom glaring at me throughout the countdown.

Fast forward to the wine tasting at Gainey's where we had a fabulous time drinking wine and enjoying our rare but always treasured family outings together. My relationship with my parents have changed so much over the years and it feels great knowing that I can share anything and everything with them without fearing getting grounded.
