{GBF Fab Finds} Boy Meets Girl

With fashion week less than a week away, I've got New York on my mind. For eight days, I'll be traversing the concrete jungle attending runway shows, business meetings, and sparkly parties which means I'm in DEFCON 5 outfit planning mode. Prep time is split between ferociously scouring editorials in the September issues, pinning street style inspirations, and plopping down in the middle of my closet combing through options until my eyes glaze over and my mind skips over to images of dancing glazed donuts.

One particular style theme that's piquing my interest is the juxtaposition between feminine and masculine. It's a theme that casts a wide-net as endless iterations and interpretations can be imagined, created, and executed. My interpretation is spawned by my developing obsession with the Chanel boy bag and my eternal fawning over florals. When paired together, it's a fabulous "boy meets girl" collision as the frou frou aura of a floral print dress adds whimsy to the simplistic and linear look of a structured flap bag.

Whether you're looking for couture inspiration or are ready to make your next fab buy, here are three of my favorite boy bags and their girly floral counterparts.

{GBF Life + Style} My Road to Fashion Law Part I

People frequently ask me how I became a fashion lawyer. After all, parallels between law and fashion intuitively run in perpendicular directions. So, here's my story.

{Part I}
When I was in law school, I met a friend who was a designer at Joie. What a huge relationship coup! Although I obsessively followed fashion via blogs and magazines, I was always an outside observant, a Jane Goddall of fashion as my social circle orbited around aspiring lawyers, accountants, and doctors. I was knowledgeable about the fashion industry but I didn't know it. My designer friend and I would chat for hours about fashion trends, emerging designers, and the denim revolution. She was my very first link to a world I longed to be in but lacked the key to unlock the door.

One day, she invited me to tour the Joie corporate headquarters. I had to miss part of my Business Law class but that's just penny pinching. At their Vernon office, I saw sketches, production samples, and a slew of fashionistas creating beautiful things. I was so excited to see the inner workings of a fashion company for the very first time yet a bit disappointed as it was a stark contrast from the pantsuit career I was embarking on. Before we left, my friend introduced me to an executive who casually mentioned that they were thinking of hiring an in-house counsel. Right then and there, the idea of being a lawyer working at a fashion company incepted into my mind. I could ditch the pantsuit and keep the law degree!

Although I didn't end up becoming in-house counsel at Joie, I did host a Girl's Night Out party at their Pasadena store last week. Life evolves ever so unpredictably and fabulously!

{GBF Designer Crush} Angelys Balek

I'm not well-versed in the technical merits of fashion design as my fashion adoration for a particular designer or collection is judged by the pace of my fluttering heart. Designer Angelys Balek has won my heart with her sweet, feminine frocks, and prints of whimsy. Angelys started her label in 2010 in Bangkok and is now expanding into the U.S. market. With celebrities and the fashion glossies all singing her praises, she is a rising star hitting every fashion stride.

I wore my Angelys Balek leather laser cut baby doll dress last week and am already thinking of where to wear it next. The dress is absolutely adorable and epitomizes everything right about baby doll dresses. The round leather collar adds a layer of sweetness to the edgy laser cut outs while the mellow yellow keeps the look soft and summer perfect.

{GBF Life + Style} Wedded Bliss

I wore my 3.1 Phillip Lim coral silk sheath dress to my friends' wedding at The Langham on Saturday. I was out all day Saturday and didn't have much time to sift through outfit ideas so I went with a foolproof wedding dress. The summery coral palette, lush yet breathable fabric, and the flowy side folds bring together a dress that's easy to wear and easy on the eyes.

I had too much fun at the wedding. The venue was gorgeous, the food was amazing, and the music right up my dancing alley. But what really made it a night to remember was the inner folds-sharing boundless laughter with friends, engaging in interesting conversations, and challenging everyone in sight to just one more chocolate covered strawberry at the dessert bar.

A great marriage is simply an extension of a great wedding as the marker of greatness is measured by the shared experiences and emotional connectivity. Everlasting marriages don't need to be gilded in gold, crowded with exotic vacations, or showered with fistfuls of diamonds as long as when the layers are peeled, the core is bonded by undying admiration, mind blowing conversations. and lots and lots of uncontrollable smiling.
