An Oscar Moment-QVC Red Carpet Oscar Party

Last Friday, I attended the QVC red carpet pre-Oscar party at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills courtesy of QVC and the ever fabulous Kelsi Smith! We spend the evening in the hotel's tented paradise noshing on caviar and cotton candy, sipping on champagne and taking in the glamour and celebrity that overtakes LA during awards season!

The long list of celebs in attendance was very impressive especially since LA was freezing and drenched in rain!

Nicole Richie

Katharine McPhee

Helena Bonham Carter

Jennifer Lawrence

Oscar winner Melissa Leo

Kim Kardashian. She's super petite in person. And absolutely stunning!

I wore a bold fuschia print dress with ruffled detailing courtesy of Cynthia Steffe. It's from their Spring 2011 collection. It may have been chilly and wet but that dress took me to a Spring state of mind.

Colin Firth! This was my last and favorite picture of the night! I was quite giddy to meet an Oscar winner (well, future Oscar winner at that moment)and someone who played Darcy in three movies! He's so gracious and has very kind eyes. I said to him, "congratulations in advance!" I definitely did not jinx him with my words.

Break The Cycle: Unmasquerade Ball and Fashion Show

A few Fridays ago, I participated in a charity fashion show hosted by Break the Cycle, a non-profit organization dedicated to engaging, educating and empowering youth to build lives and communities free from domestic violence. The fashion show was just one of the many events that took place at the ball, as silent auctions, live music and a VIP lounge filled with decadent sweets and local artwork brought people together to support a great cause.

Getting my hair and makeup done by my fabulous glamologist! Yup, that's what it says on her business card.

The dresses with the vintage twist were provided by GlamAmor.

Once the fashion show ended, I changed into a chic Black Halo dress from the Spring 2011 collection to party the rest of the night away. The dress was tailored to perfection, as careful attention to detail was paid. It's hard to see from the pictures but the bottom part of the dress is made of intricate silk foldings, creating a perfect airy contrast to the structured silhouette of the top half. I am seriously obsessed with this dress and pretty much everything else from their spring collection.

NYFW Fall 2011 Superlatives-Most Popular Nail Color

I've been on quite the never-ending journey to find that perfect shade of "go with everything but doesn't blend in with my nails" nude polish. So, I was super thankful and relieved to see the perfect shade ubiquitously appear all over the runways at NYFW. I guess I'm not the only person obsessed with nude nail polish.

CND's Desert Suede is an opaque medium tan hue that's guaranteed to go with every outfit this spring. The neutral color is very much on trend and will be a classic for seasons for come. And judging from its coverage on the runways, this is a color that will pretty much complement every skin tone!

A Pop of Zebra

Although these Dolce & Gabbana shorts are about a zillion sizes too big, I love them anyway (with a unyielding belt) as they add the perfect pop of "interesting" to an otherwise monotone outfit.

Fashion Legal News and Jargon

On August 5, 2010, Senator Schumer introduced the Innovative Design Protection and Piracy Prevention Act ("IDPPPA"). The IDPPPA, if passed, would amend the law currently under effect which allows copyright protection for the original design of a useful article which makes the article attractive or distinctive to the purchasing public. Under the current statute, a "useful" article is limited to a "vessel hull or deck." The IDPPPA would thereby extend the protection of the current statute to fashion design. This means copycat giants like Forever 21 and Steve Madden will become immensely vulnerable to copyright infringement lawsuits.

I have mixed feelings about the statute. As a fashion lawyer who deals with intellectual property enforcement and protection on a daily basis, I wholeheartedly agree that it's crucial to give brand owners the power and the tool to enforce their rights to protect their original designs. But on the other hand, I'm worried about the stringency of the new statute and its potentially crippling and polarizing effect on the marketplace not to mention the inundation  of frivolous lawsuits. What will constitute infringement? Must you copy the design seam for seam? Or will an "inspired by" look suffice? Fashion is complex  world full of abstractions and subtleties. Is it really fair to place the judgement of fashion in the hands of people (judges and jurors) who may not have a clue?

My Love's At Steak

This year, we celebrated Valentine's Day a day early with a trip to the day spa and dinner at STK on La Cienega. I'm not big on red meat, so we make it a point to eat at steakhouses for special occasions. The place was packed with couples that looked like they were on first dates, nervous and full of expectations for the expectation-laden holiday.

I love the restaurant's modern decor and vibe, a refreshing departure from other steakhouses in LA. The food was superb, with the bone-in ribeye making our top 3 list. The lump crab salad was generously lumped with crab and lightly dressed with a lemony vinaigrette. The mac n cheese was perfection, as it was superbly tasty but not too heavy. The garlic bread with pesto aioli was pure oily decadence. The only disappointment of the night was the ahi tuna tartare, which was unnecessarily oily.
