A Hip Way to Learn to Cook

Although I love to eat, I just don't have the time or energy to do much cooking as my time is split between working, blogging, shopping and playing. Knowing that I definitely should cook more, I made it a new year's resolution to experience the joy of cooking.

I jump started completing my goal by taking a cooking class at HipCooks a few weekends ago. Since it was my first cooking class, I didn't really know what to expect and was pleasantly surprised by how much fun I had and how much information was given and (hopefully) retained. We made pomegranate bellinis, chevre-stuffed grapes with pistachio, smoked salmon potato pancakes with lemon crème fraiche, poached egg cups wrapped in ham with mushrooms, hollandaise and hazelnut, and lemon and ricotta cake. Although the menu sounds a bit daunting for a cooking virgin, the instructor was super articulate and her instructions were easy to follow. The class made me realize that cooking does not have to be time-consuming at all...you just have to know what you're doing!

The class was super hands-on, with all ten students taking turns chopping up pistachios, melting butter, and breaking apart pomegranates. Of course, the most hands-on part was the eating!

Classes are $55 per person and fill up super fast. A friendlier-on-your-wallet alternative is to take cooking demonstrations at your nearby Williams Sonoma. They offer free cooking demonstrations on Sundays AND you get to eat what's been demonstrated!

Gucci 2011 Pre-Fall Collection Bids Adieu to Recessionistas

The Gucci 2011 Pre-Fall look book is absolutely fantastic. It's a no holds barred flaunt of disposable wealthy and classic opulence. From the fur trimmed coats to the python leather handbags, Gucci is making a not so subtle statement that luxury is back IN.

This is Gucci at its quintessential.

Art Los Angeles Contemporary (ALAC) Opening Night Reception

Last night I attended ALAC's red carpet reception to kick off this weekend's Art Los Angeles Contemporary fair. Held at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, purveyors and curators of art congregated to view the amazing showcase of local contemporary art pieces from dozens of galleries. Although I'm not super knowledgeable about art, I definitely appreciate and admire the sense of beauty and self-expression that is derived from the creation of art, regardless of the art form.

Jane Seymour. She looked amazing and definitely "GILF" status. Yup, I'm pretty sure she's a grandmother

The talented Rachel Griffiths. In a sea of grey and black, she stood out in her stunning yellow sheath dress. She told me she felt like a giant lemon ball.

My favorite piece. I see a beautiful girl who seemingly has it all look so sad and alone

My clog among men.

You should definitely check out the fair this weekend. It was a very well-curated exhibit and I had a lovely time! Visit Art Los Angeles for more information.

Rising from the East

An all-Asian model presence made up the roster at the Givenchy Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2011 presentation in Paris. This is kind of major and signifies a resounding nod from high fashion to the ever-growing Asian buying power. I'm loving Riccardo Tisci right now.

Quality over Quantity. Always.

These street styles showcase minimalism at its finest. They're striking proof that you don't need to look like VOGUE'S March issue had just thrown up all over you to look absolutely fabulous.
