Shanghai Girl-1930s Vintage Fashion

I'm going to a fun party tonight that's themed "A Evening in 1930s Shanghai."  I've been thinking about outfit options all day.  I'm not going to wear a traditional cheongsan (qi pao) as it might be a bit too formal for the event.  Instead, I'm opting for a simple dress accented with black lace gloves, black birdcage veil, and red lipstick.  Curled hair is a must.  I wish my grandmother lived in LA so I could dig through her vintage wear while listening to her stories about glamorous Shanghai in the 30s.

I heart my birthplace.

Have a fabulous weekend!

Candid Interview with Jeffrey Campbell, Shoe Designer Extraordinare

I'm back in LA (again)!  I feel like I've been living out of my suitcase for the past month and as much as I love to travel, there's definitely no place like LA to come home to.  What can I say?  I truly cannot see myself living anywhere BUT here.  =)

As you know, I was in Vegas a couple of times this month for work and during one of my visits, I had the fortuitous opportunity to meet and converse with the man behind the brand, Mr. Jeffrey Campbell!  Not only did I meet him, I also got a sneak peak at their Spring 2011 collection.  It's going to be platforms galore!

Jeffrey Campbell is such a humble and gracious person who's truly appreciative of his success.  Here are some of the highlights from our conversation:

goodbadnfab:  Your brand has seen a lot of success lately with knockouts like the Lita and the Foxy.  Do you plan on opening any retail stores in the future?
JC:  No, no plans at all.  We don't want to compete with our retail customers.  That wouldn't be very nice.

goodbadnfab:  What is the design process like at JC?
JC:  It's a collaborative process.  The designers all work as a team.  I definitely cannot take sole credit credit for the designs as the brand is not just about me.  It's about everyone who works at Jeffrey Campbell.  I'm so lucky to work with such talented people.

goodbadnfab:  I'm loving all the conceptual shoes gracing the editorials that's drawing inspiration from animal hooves.  Any JC hooves in the works?
JC:  Aren't all of our shoes a bit hoof-like?

goodbadnfab:  Where is the Jeffrey Campbell headquarter?
JC:  In Los Angeles
goodbadnfab:  Ooooo, does that mean we have JC sample sales to look forward to?
JC:  Sorry, but the factory only sends one shoe for each sample!

He's such a sweetheart!

Wrangler's High Waisted Denim Shorts and Others-Summer Fashion Trend

I've been looking for a pair of hot high waisted denim shorts since forever! It's a good thing we're having an Indian summer in LA as I still haven't found the perfect pair and it's already mid-August.  With the unpredictable weather in play, I hope that once I do find the perfect pair of retro inspired high waist shorts, I'll still get a couple more months of wear time.  Here are some options I'm considering:

Wrangler's High Waisted Denim Shorts

Arden B High Waist Cuffed Shorts

ASOS Reclaimed Denim Cutoff Shorts

Katy Perry, Style and Color

I'm back from Vegas.  The trip was exhausting but super productive.  Aside from work, I got to chit chat with a couple of celebrities and designers (more on that in later posts).

Perhaps influenced by the razzle dazzle of the Vegas lights and colors, I'm loving these pictures of Katy Perry in Guardian Magazine.  The girl can work color wigs like no other!

I really can't see Katy Perry in any other kind of clothing.  With her body and her looks...she was born to rock retro glam.  After all, she is THE modern day pin-up girl!

Nicole Richie, RIght Weight

In law school, I obsessively followed and emulated Nicole Richie's style. She exudes bohemian chic and is a shining example that Southern California style does not have to revolve around Juicy tracksuits and tank/shorts pairings.

Her weight has made headlines in the past and at one point I was truly afraid she was going to wither away before the public's eye.  However, it seems like family life has been good for her body and I'm quite relieved to see she's now healthy and seemingly happy!

Sarah Michelle Gellar Sighting-Lunching at Craft

I went to a business lunch at Craft Restaurant in Century City today.  Although it was my first time at Tom Colicchio's steak and seafood restaurant, I've been wanting to go for quite some time. I was impressed by the decor-clean lines, natural light, modern paintings, and striking greenery.

The food made my day.  Both starters, the gazpacho and the arugula salad were market fresh and refreshing.  For the main courses, we shared the dry aged ribeye and the diver sea scallops. The scallops were a bit too salty for my taste, but the ribeye was out of this world tasty!  Each bite of the tender meat was perfectly infused with savoriness.  We also ordered a bunch of side dishes with my favorite being the oyster mushrooms. For dessert, we sampled the pecan almond cake, the blackberry pie and the sweet corn ice cream.  The ice cream was divine and did not taste like it was made from a vegetable.

Towards the middle of the lunch, I realized Sarah Michelle Gellar was sitting at the table right next to us.  She was wearing a cute navy blue lace dress and was having lunch with a guy, an agent looking type.  Although I couldn't hear the specifics of their conversation, I did pick up on one thing.  Sarah Michelle talks fast and talks A LOT!  In fact, she probably contributed to 90% of the conversation.  I also noticed the girl is very tiny.  Not anorexic tiny or anything.  She just has a very small frame.  Oh, and she's super cute!

Today's lunch was definitely a nice workday break!
